Over the past years, the EuroLeague has granted ASVEL a permanent license and several other clubs a wild card. Even though those projects seem to fulfill all the requirements, there are still some factors that make the league's long-term trust in them look questionable.

"We have a sporting ambition of being EuroLeague champions in the following 5-7 years. We will try to advance to the playoffs this season."

The quote belongs to LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne's Deputy Chairman Gaetan Muller, who laid down the club's ambitions in an interview with SportBuzzBusiness.fr at the beginning of the 2022-23 campaign.

"It's still hard to say, but our projection is to have a budget of €20.0 million within 3 years and €22-€23 million in the next 5 to 7 years," Muller added.

This season ASVEL possesses a budget of €15.7 million, the second-biggest budget in French basketball, trailing only AS Monaco (€20.7 million). However, ASVEL have adopted a different financial model, relying more on linear progression.

To increase their budget, ASVEL will soon be able to play in their new home arena, next to Parc Olympique Lyonnais football stadium. The new 12,000-seat indoor hall will be called LDLC Arena and essentially replace the 5,500-seat Astroballe.
