Svetislav Pesic, former head coach of the Serbian national basketball team, has confirmed he will not continue in his coaching role.
During an interview with SportKlub, he discussed his desire for new experiences and emphasized the need for a fresh start with new leadership in the national team.
Pesic reiterated his decision regarding his coaching future. He candidly shared his thoughts.
"I have other plans in life, I want to do something else. I do not feel any obligation to anyone. I'm not 57; I'm 75 years old," he said, underscoring his readiness to step aside and allow for new leadership within the national team structure.
Despite his decision to leave, Pesic expressed a deep sense of responsibility toward the players he has coached over the last three years.
He acknowledged that this connection has complicated his decision.
"What I feel is only a responsibility towards the players I have worked with in the past three years, and that is what 'bothers' me in my final decision."
Furthermore, he emphasized the need for change within the organization.
"I have already told Covic that with a new president, there will be a new team, new vice presidents, and a fresh start for a new Olympic cycle," Pesic stated.
Pesic has a rich history with the national team, having led them to a silver medal at the World Championship last year and an Olympic bronze this year.
Even as he prepares to step away, he expressed his willingness to support the team in any way he can.
"I will not hide, I will help Covic and the new coach as much as they need from me," reflecting his ongoing commitment to Serbian basketball.
