The German champions, having just opened the new arena -- SAP Garden -- aim to become one of Europe's top teams. However, when Sport1.de asked if Schroder could imagine playing for Bayern toward the end of his career, the 31-year-old guard was clear: "Absolutely not."

The reason is Schroder's strong connection to his hometown team, Basketball Lowen Braunschweig.

"When I return to Germany, I'll only play for Braunschweig," he explained. "I respect Munich and all other cities, but I can't make another team bigger than it already is. If I go to a team in Germany, then hopefully, it will be a big hit. And then, of course, I want that to be my team."

As a shareholder in Basketball Lowen Braunschweig since 2018, Schroder has invested in the club's future, even changing its colors to black and gold. Returning to play for his hometown team remains one of his goals.

"I think if I go there, people will naturally come and take notice," he said. "And that is simply good for the team and where we want to go. We also want to be at the top of Europe."

Though, the NBA star acknowledges Bayern's success and aspires to follow their example.

"Bayern also started somewhere, and they are very high up," Schroder noted. "I look at Bayern -- football and basketball -- and how they do things. Of course, I want to bring the NBA flair into it [my club], but how big they [Bayern] are, I definitely want to be there [at that level] too."
