After a shocking lottery win with just 1.8% odds, the Mavericks are locked in on drafting Duke's Cooper Flagg No. 1 overall and have no plans to trade the pick, even for a superstar.
After making the biggest jump in NBA Draft Lottery history to land the No. 1 overall pick, the Dallas Mavericks are locked in on selecting Duke forward Cooper Flagg.
According to ESPN's Tim MacMahon, the team has no interest in trading the pick, not even for a proven superstar.
NBA insider Marc Stein echoed this sentiment. When asked if the Mavs might consider moving the top pick instead of drafting Flagg, a source familiar with the team's thinking told Stein: "No chance."
Dallas had just a 1.8% chance of winning the lottery after being eliminated in the Western Conference's final Play-In game.
Sources also told ESPN that Patrick Dumont, who just completed his first year as the Mavericks' governor, views the opportunity to draft a generational talent like Flagg as a "gift."
The surprise lottery win came just months after a blockbuster move that stunned the NBA: Dallas general manager Nico Harrison traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in a deal centered around Anthony Davis, sparking outrage among Mavs fans.
