The Spanish Basketball Federation approved a €28M budget for 2025, forecasting a €1.5M surplus. President Elisa Aguilar outlined goals for EuroBasket 2029, youth development, and license growth. Basketball is now Spain’s second-most played sport and leads among women.
The General Assembly of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) approved the 2024 financial management and unveiled an ambitious 2025 budget exceeding €28 million, including a projected surplus of €1.5 million.
These figures reflect the FEB’s preparations to host the 2029 Men’s EuroBasket, whose opening game will be held at Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
Held in Madrid, the assembly gathered 65 of 120 members, who also ratified the 2025–26 season calendar and competition rules. FEB’s CFO Alfredo Vera shared that 82% of the 2025 budget will come from internal revenue, with only 18% derived from public subsidies.
FEB President Elisa Aguilar presented the annual review, highlighting Spain's success in securing EuroBasket 2029 and celebrating the national teams’ summer achievements—ten medals, including silver for the women’s 3x3 team at the Paris Olympics.
Aguilar emphasized the Federation’s strategic roadmap for the Olympic cycle: hosting major events, increasing participation, rebuilding the national teams post-retirement of key players, and ensuring financial stability.
She celebrated the rise in registered players: more than 440,000 licenses by the end of 2024, with 34,000 added in 2023 alone—bringing the FEB closer to its 2030 goal of 500,000. Basketball is now Spain’s second-most played sport and the leading one among women, with over 157,000 female players.
The FEB’s healthy finances allocate 65% of its 2025 budget to sporting activities and will increase investments in facilities and infrastructure. Aguilar underlined the Federation’s commitment to youth development as the foundation of national team success, noting the importance of strong coaching and development structures.
Competitively, the 2024 season was called “outstanding,” with 243 clubs managed, several promotions organized, and new milestones such as the renamed FEB men’s leagues and the first-ever Copa España. The Queen’s Cup (Copa de la Reina) in Zaragoza reached a million viewers over four days, marking a season highlight.
The “Team La Familia” initiative launched in 2024 to foster a deeper sense of belonging among current and former national team players. Digital growth also stood out: over 1.5 million social media followers, 6% growth year-over-year, and the FEB ranking third globally in engagement.
Aguilar concluded by praising the contributions of regional federations and various stakeholders. “We count on your continued support to help elevate Spanish basketball even further,” she said, “so we leave behind a better sport than the one we inherited.”
