Former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins believes the Dallas Mavericks should trade their projected No. 1 overall pick, Cooper Flagg, for Kevin Durant.
After a wild rollercoaster of a season, the Dallas Mavericks were blessed with the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.
While there's little debate that Duke standout Cooper Flagg should be the obvious choice at No. 1, recent comments from Mavericks GM Nico Harrison have sparked speculation.
Harrison mentioned the team is focused on a three-year window to win a championship, prompting rumors that Dallas might consider trading the pick for an established superstar.
Former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins added fuel to that speculation during an appearance on Run It Back show, suggesting that trading the top pick for Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant could be a smart move.
"Kevin Durant wouldn't be a bad move," Cousins said. "Nico is already on record saying it's a three-year window to win a championship, and Cooper Flagg doesn’t necessarily fit that timeline. But Kevin Durant does. I absolutely think the Mavs should trade that No. 1 pick."
While giving up a potential franchise cornerstone for a 36-year-old might seem far-fetched, Durant’s production speaks for itself.
He's still one of the league's elite players, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists this season with the Suns. Acquiring him could instantly make the Mavericks championship favorites.
