Thursday night in Abu Dhabi: After a long day of official conferences, practices, and media duties, part of the BasketNews crew hopped in an Uber back to the hotel. Just a regular ride, or so we thought.

"Are you Greeks?" the driver asked as we got in.

Turns out, he had already had 10 Greek airport pickups that day.

"A lot of Greeks are in the city," he smiled.

He offered us local strawberry cookies (yes, UAE hospitality is on another level), and soon, the small talk shifted to basketball and the four teams in the EuroLeague Final Four.

He knew the basics: two Greek teams, one Turkish, and "one rich team" – his way of describing AS Monaco.

Then he said something that stuck with us.
