Celtics reportedly seeking first-round pick in Jrue Holiday trade talks.
The Boston Celtics are expected to make significant changes to their roster ahead of next season.
With the team currently $51.8 million over the second apron under the NBA's new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), Boston is facing steep financial penalties that could exceed $238 million if no adjustments are made.
One of the most likely trade candidates is veteran guard Jrue Holiday, who is set to earn over $30 million next season. Moving his contract would help the Celtics save a substantial amount of money and bring them closer to cap compliance.
However, the question now is: what can Boston realistically expect in return for Holiday?
According to Matt Moore of Hardwood Paroxysm, the Celtics are aiming for a first-round pick in exchange for the two-time NBA champion.
"While the focus has been on reducing payroll, sources have told the Paroxysm that Boston is setting the price at a first-round pick along with whatever reduced salary comes back in the deal," Moore revealed.
Reports suggest that Boston has already begun listening to trade offers for Holiday, and a deal appears increasingly likely.
Holiday has played a crucial role for the Celtics on both ends of the floor over the past couple of seasons.
In the 2024–25 campaign, he averaged 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.9 assists across 62 games.
